The Chief Secretary of the Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation Ananda Palitha will be produced before the Hultsdorf Magistrate’s Court today.
He was taken into the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department last evening to record a statement, over a recent claim he made at a media briefing on the 19th of August of an impending fuel shortage.

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation lodged a complaint with the CID over Ananda Palitha’s statement, claiming there is no truth to his statement and called for an investigation to be carried out into his charges as public panic was caused over the statement.
The CID following investigations revealed that there was no truth to Ananda Palitha’s claims.
Accordingly, he was arrested at his residence in Wattala last evening. The CID is conducting further investigations.
