The draft of the 21st Amendment to the Constitution will be presented before the Cabinet of Ministers once again today for approval.
Although the proposed amendment was presented before the Cabinet last week, the draft did not receive approval.
The Cabinet of Ministers decided to introduce further amendments to the draft 21st Amendment to the Constitution.
It was proposed to include proposals by political parties and organisations and to be tabled once again at this evening’s Cabinet of Ministers meeting.
It was announced earlier this month that a general consensus has been reached between all parties regarding several key points related to the draft of the 21st Amendment to the Constitution.
Political party leaders met with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on several occasions to discuss matters pertaining to the 21st Amendment to the Constitution.
Accordingly, Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe is expected to table the draft of the 21st Constitutional Amendment before the Cabinet today.
The Cabinet will convene under the auspices of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in Colombo this evening.
