Former Auditor General Gamini Wijesinghe says before sending the present group of Parliamentarians home, it is imperative to amend the country’s Constitution.

Speaking during an event in Colombo today, Gamini Wijesinghe said Sri Lanka is heading in the wrong direction and could be declared bankrupt in a matter of weeks.

He said for several years, he has been warning that Sri Lanka is heading towards bankruptcy and the dollar reserves should be spent wisely.

The Former Auditor General said however such warnings were ignored by rulers and the country is at the brink of bankruptcy.

He said even if another group takes over the governance tomorrow, it will not be able to reverse the trend immediately.

Gamini Wijesinghe also claimed Sri Lanka is the only nation where the constitution itself forces rulers to rob the country.

Former Auditor General Wijesinghe said although the present group of MPs should be removed from office, the priority should be to amend the constitution which will help guide the country in the correct path.
