Former Provincial Councillor Amal Silva and an employee of the Moratuwa Municipal Council, who were arrested over violence reported in Colombo on the 9th of May, have been remanded.
The order was issued by Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage this evening.
The duo was accordingly remanded till tomorrow (18).
Yesterday, the Attorney General instructed Inspector General of Police CD Wickramaratne to record statements and arrest 22 individuals, including former Ministers, in connection with the attack on protesters at Galle Face and opposite the Temple Trees on the 9th of May.
The group includes Parliamentarians Johnston Fernando, Sanath Nishantha, Milan Jayathilake and Sanjeeva Edirimanna, Senior DIG-Western Province Deshabandu Tennakoon, Moratuwa Mayor Saman Lal Fernando, Mahinda Kahandagama and Dan Priyasad.
The Attorney General’s Department said an extract of its investigations into the incidents has also been submitted to the Criminal Investigation Department.
