Cabinet Spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardana says alternate methods to transport agricultural goods to Colombo are being considered at present.
The Minister speaking at the weekly Cabinet of Ministers meeting this morning said Sri Lanka Railways has been requested to look into transporting agricultural goods via train at night time.
The Transport Minister claimed that his family members are also facing difficulties in obtaining fuel and spend long hours in queues adding that the government is well aware of the difficulties the public is facing.
He noted that this is not a result of the government’s inefficiencies.
The Minister said when Sri Lanka defaulted on debt, countries are hesitant to provide fuel under the previous schemes.
Minister Gunawardana said previously they imported fuel on 90- or 180-day credit, adding that this is not possible any longer.
He claimed that dollars cannot be sourced to make payments.
