A circular is scheduled to be issued today instructing all state institutions to take steps to use electricity and fuel sparingly.
The circular will be issued by the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Services, Provincial Councils and Local Government, JJ Rathnasiri.
The circular will be issued at the request of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka.
Accordingly, instructions will be issued to minimize the use of air conditioners and unnecessary electrical devices in state institutions.
Meanwhile, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Services JJ Rathnasiri has issued a special circular to the heads of state institutions instructing them to refrain from using state vehicles for non-essential travel.
The circular also issued directives not to use fuel for non-essential travel.
The Secretary instructed the heads of institutions to limit inviting officials who use state vehicles for special conferences and discussions scheduled to be held in Colombo.
These measures are aimed at reducing fuel consumption and fuel costs.
Meanwhile, the Ministry said such events and discussions will be held via Zoom in future, instead of summoning government officials for meetings in Colombo.
