The National Election Commission says from this year, all citizens over the age of 18 will have the opportunity to enter their names in the Electoral Register on four occasions.
Accordingly, the registration of all those who have completed 18 years will take place on the 1st of February.
Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake noted those who will turn 18 years during the four-month period from the 1st of February to the 31st of May will be able to register to vote separately.
Voter registration for those who turn 18 between June and September will take place by the 30th of September.
Saman Sri Ratnayake said accordingly, when an election is declared, the supplementary lists of the certified electoral register will be added to the valid voter register of the election.
He said the move is expected to grant an opportunity to all those who turn 18 the right to vote as soon as possible in accordance with the Constitution.
The Commissioner-General of Elections said from this year, those who turn 18 will be able to register online without visiting the Grama Niladhari offices.
