State Minister of Consumer Protection Lasantha Alagiyawanna says it is likely that the Litro Gas company will also increase prices of gas in the near future.
Speaking to media, State Minister Alagiyawanna noted that the company has however indicated to the government that it expects the current gas crisis to be over by the 5th of April.
The State Minister said the company is releasing nearly 100,000 cylinders to the market daily.
State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna added that he understands why the general public has been venting their frustration at politicians.
The State Minister noted that he has also never witnessed queues of this magnitude to purchase essentials in the past.
He acknowledged that it is the responsibility of the public representatives to provide basics to the citizens.
State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna said he is also hopeful that all crises prevailing in the country will be brought to an end by the Sinhala and Tamil Year.
The State Minister noted that he cannot personally grant concessions to the people but expects relevant officials to grant certain relief during the festive period.
