The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna says former Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal should receive a pension payment based on his letter of appointment.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, General Secretary of the SLPP Parliamentarian Sagara Kariyawasam said Ajith Nivard Cabraal who served as the CBSL Governor during the period between 2006 and 2015 was promised a pension at the time of his appointment.
MP Kariyawasam said therefore he had directed a letter during the tenure of the good governance government demanding his pension payment.
He said instead of granting his pension, the opposition faction is trying to depict a different picture to the public at a time when Ajith Nivard Cabral is set to be reappointed to the post.
The SLPP General Secretary noted Ajith Nivard Cabraal is making a sacrifice by resigning from his state ministerial portfolio and from Parliament and therefore requested opposition factions not to hurl baseless allegations.
MP Kariyawasam noted that since Ajith Cabrall will resume the govenoshp this week, he cannot draw a pension and therefore the matter should be deemed closed.
