State Minister of Money & Capital Market and State Enterprise Reforms Ajith Nivard Cabraal has resigned as a National List Member of Parliament of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
The letter of resignation has been handed over to the Secretary General of Parliament. Ajith Nivard Cabraal will return to the Central Bank as the Governor on Thursday.
He is expected to assume duties as the CBSL Governor at 8am on thursday. Ajith Nivard Cabraal also served as the Central Bank Governor during the period from 2006 to 2015.
Meanwhile, the 15th Governor of the Central Bank Professor WD Lakshman will step down from his post tomorrow.
Former Parliamentarian Jayantha Ketagoda will replace Ajith Nivard Cabraal as a SLPP National List MP in Parliament.
The General Secretary of the SLPP, Parliamentarian Sagara Kariyawasam addressing media from the SLPP headquarters this morning said, the SLPP will take necessary steps to re-appoint Jayantha Ketagoda to Parliament through the National List.
Ketagoda who entered Parliament through the SLPP National List after the 2020 General Election resigned as a MP in July, paving way for Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa to enter Parliament.
Although Jayantha Ketagoda was tipped to receive an Ambassadorial post, he remained in the country after stepping down from Parliament.
