Minister of Public Security and Chief Government Whip Prasanna Ranatunga informed Parliament today that the Attorney General’s Department will be directed to expedite the implementation of the recommendations of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry that probed the Easter Sunday attacks.

Speaking in Parliament today, Minister Ranatunga claimed many individuals are attempting to spread claims that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was involved in a conspiracy behind the Easter attacks in order to come into power.

The Minister said the attacks took place in 2019 whereas the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna secured victories in a majority of Local Authorities during the 2018 election.

He said the former head of State Intelligence Service Senior DIG Nilantha Jayawardena was proposed as a state witness by then-Attorney General Dappula de Livera.

The Minister said the final report of the Commission has been tabled in Parliament.

The Chief Government Whip said they are unable to intervene in judicial matters adding they have no intention to resort to such tactics either.

The Minister claimed he along with the present administration will strive to bring justice to all those affected due to the Easter attacks
