Veteran Actress Sumana Amarasinghe has passed away today at the age of 73.
She was recently hospitalised over an illness and passed away this morning.
Sumana was born on the 21st of February 1948 in Kandy. She contested the beauty pageant “Lassana Muhuna”, while she was in school and won the title.
This acted as the foundation of her gaining a maiden cinematic role.
Amarasinghe was married to Roy de Silva, who was also a renowned actor and director.
Apart from acting, she also worked as an assistant director, production manager, costume designer as well as a producer.
She acted in films such as Pipena Kumudu, Hathara Peraliya, Rena Giraw, Dahasak Sithuvili, Samanala Kumariyo and Hathara Peraliya.
She was a versatile actress from drama to comedy, and usually known as the Sweet girl in Sinhala cinema.
