Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa says the absence of former Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake from Parliament at this time, is a major shortcoming.
MP Premadasa expressed hope that Ramanayake will be released in the near future.
Premadasa also stated that Ranjan Ramanayake is currently receiving treatment at the Angunukolapelessa Prison Hospital due to an injury on his back and knee.
MP Premadasa, speaking to media after visiting Ramanayake in Prison today said, a request has been made to relevant authorities to transfer Ranjan Ramanayake to the Welikada Prison to ensure thorough treatment.
He added Ramanayake is a resource to the country, is a social worker, humane and has worked for the people setting aside his personal difficulties claiming he should not be in prison.
Premadasa expressed hope that the President will intervene and take necessary measures to release him and protect his democratic rights.
