The Colombo Commercial Fertiliser Company says 90,000MT of fertiliser will be imported from China in the future.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, the Chairman of the Company Methsiri Wijegunawardena said the stock of fertiliser will be used for the forthcoming harvest season.
Wijegunawardena said the stock of Chinese fertiliser will arrive by April. He claimed the stock of fertiliser contains nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium components, with a high contrast of nitrogen adding the fertiliser is suitable for farming.
The Chairman said they expect a continuous shipment of the fertiliser.
Furthermore, Wijegunawardena said stocks of fertiliser from the Chinese fertiliser ship which was previously rejected will not be accepted.
He said they held discussions with the Attorney General’s Department adding according to the conditions imposed, a new stock of fertiliser will be imported.
The Chairman claimed irrespective of the conditions the fertiliser samples will be tested at the SGS Laboratory in Switzerland, the National Plant Quarantine Service and the Sri Lanka Standards Institution adding Chinese counterparts will also test the fertiliser.
He said all parties have agreed to the terms while the matter has been confirmed in Court.
