Police say a special security programme will be in place on Friday, in lieu of the 74th Independence Day celebrations.
Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police of the Western Province Deshabandu Tennakoon said 3,000 Police officers and security forces personnel are due to be deployed for the programme.
He said the programme will cover the Colombo city as well as the Western Province, and will be carried out with the assistance of the Tri-Forces and the Police Special Task Force.
Senior DIG Tennakoon said vehicular movement will be restricted along 21 roads from 5am on Friday, till the conclusion of the Independence Day Celebrations.
He further noted invitees will be able to arrive at the celebration without any difficulties till 7.30am on Friday, if they travel with the invitation and the label provided regarding vehicle parking.
He requested invitees to arrive at the venue prior to 7.30am, as alternative routes will have to be used to reach the celebrations thereafter, from the Independence Roundabout.
