Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekera says the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and the Ministry have received more than 70 proposals during the past month for the supply of petroleum products.
Taking to Twitter the Minister said all proposals are evaluated by a committee comprising government officials and are issued Letters of Intent once all requirements are fulfilled.
He noted that most proposals fulfil the technical requirements yet fail to fulfil the payment methods that can be adopted by the CPC due to the country’s and banks’ ratings.
Minister Wijesekera urged individuals with a viable proposal to direct them to the CPC or the Energy Ministry and to refrain from spreading false and misleading news items.
The Minister also claimed that the CPC has instructed its lawyers to take legal action against a news publication on false and misleading news articles that were published on crude oil being supplied to Sri Lanka from Russia.
Minister Wijesekera said a complaint will also be lodged by the CPC to the Criminal Investigation Department to investigate allegations.
