399 individuals have been arrested for attempting to illegally leave for Australia since the 1st of January.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said 91 suspects have been deported to Sri Lanka while legal action has been taken against them.
SSP Thalduwa said if convicted, the individuals could face a fine of up to Rs.200,000 and a five year prison sentence.
The Police Media Spokesman said an increase in attempts to illegally enter Australia has been observed.
He said the arrests were made by the Sri Lanka Navy and the Police.
SSP Thalduwa said the Australian government under no circumstance will allow individuals to illegally enter or remain in the country adding that illegal migrants are deported promptly.
