The Power of Working People Association says 36 state and private sector trade unions have unanimously decided to support the trade union action staged by teachers and principals.
It said if the reasonable demands of the teachers are not properly addressed, trade union action could be initiated in various industries.
Speaking during a media briefing today, convener of the organisation Ravi Kumudesh condemned attempts made by certain groups to cover up errors of the COVID-19 mitigation efforts by blaming the demonstrations of teachers and principals and other protests for the rapid spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
Kumudesh said the solutions for the issues faced by the teachers and principals are not labelling or slinging mud at trade union leaders, provoking the public, and using henchmen of the government to suppress protests.
He said all trade unions are observing the government’s response. Meanwhile, Kumudesh also explained the actual reason behind the current COVID-19 pandemic situation in the country.
He said a number of hospitals are at full capacity adding these hospitals are struggling to maintain its’ services.
Kumudesh said they are able to scientifically prove that the teachers and principals are not the reason for the current situation adding the country is still experiencing the tail end of the third COVID wave.
He said the government failed to accurately mitigate the third wave as the government kept faith in the vaccination drive and boasted its capabilities which led to the current spike in the pandemic.
Kumudesh emphasised on the responsibility of the government to provide solutions to the demands of the trade unions.
