Health trade unions launched a 24-hour joint strike action at all hospitals in the Uva Province from 7am today.
Speaking to NewsRadio President of the Association of Health Professionals Ravi Kumudesh said the strike is being carried out at all hospitals and health institutions in the Uva Province as another step in a series of strike actions based on several demands.
Kumudesh said medical laboratory professionals, nurses, and supplementary services staff will join the strike.
Kumudesh said they sought discussions to resolve various inconveniences faced by the public when obtaining health services for a period of three months but to no avail.
He said the lack of professionalism on the part of the Ministry of Health, the subject Minister, or the Secretary to the Health Ministry to organise discussions have escalated the situation.
Kumudesh said they will inform the public of the reasons behind the union action and of the government’s lack of effort to prevent the public being inconvenienced due to union action.
