Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe says the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution is a big leap forward compared to the 19th Amendment.

Speaking at a media briefing at the Government Information Department the Minister said he received an invitation by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party to discuss matters pertaining to the Constitution at length.

He said the proposed 22nd Amendment was a big step forward from the 19th Amendment and noted when the 19th Amendment was passed, the public did not demand constitutional reforms.

Meanwhile, Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said he criticised measures implemented by the government from the beginning.

He noted he opposed the appointment of PB Jayasundara as the Secretary to the President as well.

Minister Rajapakshe said he also expressed his displeasure over the appointment of Ajith Nivard Cabraal as the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, and criticised the policies related to tax concessions.

He claimed he was also opposed to the fertiliser policy proposed by the government and charged the opposition of only criticising the government when people took to the streets demanding the government’s resignation.
