Parliamentarian Susil Premajayantha says the 21st Amendment to the Constitution must be tabled in Parliament with immediate effect.
The MP said Parliamentarians who are burdened over the country will not oppose the Amendment.
MP Premajayantha speaking in Parliament said the 21st Amendment must be passed with a public referendum.
He noted that Article 4A in the 20th Amendment refers to the executive powers of the President adding that if it is to be abolished it must be done so through a complete constitutional amendment.
He said the electoral system must also undergo change.
MP Premajayantha said MP Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe will table a 22nd Amendment to the Constitution with necessary amendments that will highlight the demands of the majority.
Meanwhile, Parliamentarian Arundika Fernando joining the debate said he should not be in politics as he used to be a pilot and regrets leaving such a career.
MP Fernando said the people’s struggle was questionable, and condemned the attack of his house.
He also accused the leader of the JVP Anura Kumara Dissanayake of creating the unrest, adding that while the JVP may not have directly been involved in the attacks, they remains the key main leaders of such groups in villages.
Furthermore, Parliamentarian Vasudeva Nanayakkara said the current situation in the country highlights that none of the politicians who governed the country in recent years have served the people.
He said one thing is certain, that Sri Lanka is losing its justice system, ethics, and civilisation.
MP Nanayakkara said the individuals who set fire to buildings and vehicles and assaulted groups had no clear direction adding that they were of the view that all MPs should be attacked regardless of their parties.
He noted that they acted on this common goal.
