The Marine Environment Protection Authority says two officials have been stationed to monitor the removal of the X-Press Pearl wreckage during all 24-hours.

Speaking to media today MEPA Chairperson Dharshani Lahandapura said two officials will also supervise the hauling of wreckage to a yard in Wattala.

She pointed out that two companies have been hired to move the shipwreck and the containers within the vessel.

She commented that a US company has been hired to move the container vessels which will be conducted using advanced technology and experienced divers.

Lahandapura noted that the wreckage will be moved out of sea by a Chinese salvage company who has sent two ships for the purpose.

She claimed that the company is strategizing methods of moving the ship ashore.
