State Minister Shehan Semasinghe says in comparison to the first quarter of the year, second quarter economic growth has increased by 12.2%.
The State Minister addressing Parliament yesterday claimed a 12.3% increase in economic growth was witnessed this year in comparison to the second quarter of 2020, when the country went into the first lockdown.
He questioned whether this wasn’t a result of ensuring the health and safety of the country.
State Minister Semasinghe said the collapsing agriculture industry will see a growth of 8.1% by the second quarter of 2022 while the industrial sector will see a growth of 22%.
He claimed the construction industry that collapsed during 2015-2019 had a 18.2% growth by the second quarter of 2021 while the service industry had a 7.5% growth.
State Minister Semasinghe said all economic growth targets can be achieved by fully vaccinating the population.
The State Minister said the government will reach all necessary decisions for the country, the economy and the citizens irrespective of false allegations being levelled.
