The 2021 Grade 5 Scholarship Examination will be held across 2,943 examination centres, today.
The Department of Examination said 340,507 students are scheduled to sit the exam today.
The Department noted 255,062 students will sit the exam in the Sinhala medium and 85,446 students in the Tamil medium at 2,943 examination centres.
The 2021 Grade 5 Scholarship Examination was due to be held in August last year but was postponed on a number of occasions owing to the COVID-19 crisis.
Accordingly, 108 examination centres have also been set up to facilitate students who have tested positive for COVID-19 while a total of 496 coordinating centres will be in operation for the entire exam.
Meanwhile, Commissioner General of Examinations LMD Dharmasena advised students to sit the examination without any fear.
The Commissioner General said the first paper, that is one hour, will be handed out at 9:30am and the second paper, that is one hour and 15 minutes, will be handed out at 11am.
The Commissioner General also stated that parents will not be allowed inside schools during the examination and requested students be escorted to schools half an hour before the exam.
He meanwhile urged students to ensure they are seated at the correct desk with the respective admission number.
Dharmasena said students should carry required stationery and a bottle of sanitiser, while correction fluid will not be allowed at the exam.
