A 20-year-old Iranian national who is pursuing higher studies in Ukraine has been deported after he attempted to flee to Germany through Sri Lanka, after arriving from Turkey using a forged passport.
He was arrested by officials attached to the Department of Immigration and Emigration at the Bandaranaike International Airport, and deported to Turkey.
He had presented a passport of a Greek national to enter Sri Lanka.
It was identified as a passport wanted by INTERPOL.
Further interrogation of the individual revealed he was engaged in higher studies in Ukraine and had left for Turkey due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
It was revealed that he attempted to use the forged passport to flee to Germany through Sri Lanka.
