Officers of the Narcotics Control Division of the Sri Lanka Customs have seized 16kg of gold.
The Customs officers detected the gold being smuggled through courier companies through the cargo section under business names.
The gold was found hidden in several parcels imported from Dubai as spare parts and coffee machines.
The parts of the goods were meticulously constructed in gold and fitted in to the equipment.
The market value of the gold has been estimated at Rs.220 million.
Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the illegal import while further investigations are being carried out by the Customs Narcotics Division.
