Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella says all 14 crucial or vital drugs used to treat patients are available in the country.
The Minister said there is however a shortage of the anti-rabies drug, adding that the shortage will be addressed promptly.
Speaking at a media briefing at the Department of Government Information, the Minister said there is no massive shortage of medicine that is outside of the control of the Health Ministry.
Minister Rambukwella said of the 664 essential medicines, a certain shortage has been reported in 49 drugs.
The Minister said alternative medicines however are available.
He added hospitals are still capable of treating patients without any lack of essential medicines.
The Minister also stated that all medical groups have rallied together voluntarily and are issuing advise on ways to move forward amidst the present medical crisis.
