Inspector General of Police Chandana Wickramaratne says investigations into the discovery of a hand grenade at the premises of the All Saints’ Church in Borella on Tuesday have not been completed.
The IGP issuing a special statement said, all individuals linked to the incident will be dealt with by the law regardless of their rank and distinction.
The IGP said investigations were initially launched by the Borella Police and were taken over by the Colombo Crimes Division.
He added CCTV footage obtained from surrounding areas are being probed in accordance with the law while evidence recording is also underway.
IGP Wickramaratne said 14 statements have thus far been recorded by the CCD over the incident while scientific and technological methods are being used in investigations along with expert and specialist support.
The IGP claimed that the suspects and the purpose behind placing a hand grenade will be determined promptly, adding that they are inquiring into whether the move was part of a conspiracy while the masterminds are yet to be undercovered.
He stated that Court will be informed of developments into investigations.
The IGP said directives have been issued to promptly investigate the hand grenade found at the church similar to investigations carried out over the discovery of a hand grenade at a private hospital in Narahenpita three months ago.
