Minister of Health Prof. Channa Jayasumana says 101 types of medicines and surgical equipment donated by the government of India will arrive in Sri Lanka on Wednesday.
Speaking to media, Minister Jayasumana said the Rs.340 million worth medicines donated by Indonesia will arrive within a week.
The Minister meanwhile said Letters of Credit of USD 19.02 million have been opened for the importation of 186 essential drugs.
He claimed steps are being taken to manage the shortage of medicine.
Minister Jayasumana said there is a shortage of a number of medicines at the central warehouse of the Medical Supplies Division of the Ministry of Health, including two life-saving medicines and 148 essential medicines due to the prevailing situation.
