Minister Namal Rajapaksa says the government plans to open ten new industrial sites around the Hambantota port, including cement and steel production before the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

Speaking to media in Hambantota this morning, the Sports Minister said he hopes to create new employment opportunities for sectors of self employment and animal husbandry.

The Minister commented that Rs. 30 billion has been allocated for developing vocational training given to the public.

He explained that entrepreneurs will be given an opportunity to commence business activities and market their products at the home shops to be built by the government.

Minister Rajapaksa explained that the government is going about such development activities with funding constraints, but have also managed to continue paying samurdhi payments and state sector salaries.

The Minister noted that he expects the price of cement to decrease, after the supply will increase through the Hambantota project.
