The United National Party has urged the government to take steps related to COVID-19 based on advice of health experts.
Chairman of the UNP Wajira Abeywardana said protecting the health system is imperative to save the lives of Sri Lankans.
The UNP Chairman said due to the on-going lockdown measures, the death and infection rates have come down considerably.
He said the government should listen to the experts when taking decisions regarding the dates to reopen the country and pertaining to imposing new guidelines.
Former Minister Wajira Abeywardana noted that if the government takes appropriate decisions to save the lives of the people, the economic issues can be resolved through a methodical programme.
He said the UNP is capable of rebuilding the economy like it has done on several occasions in the past.
Former Minister Wajira Abeywardana said therefore views and recommendations of health experts should be considered first to deal with the current health emergency and thereafter attention can be drawn towards the economy and other sectors.
