COLOMBO (NewsRadio); All liqour outlets in the Nuwara Eliya district will be closed tomorrow in view of the Thai Pongal festival.
Acting Commissioner-General of Excise Kapila Kumarasinghe said the liqour stores in the Badulla district other than those within the Mahiyanganaya and Rideemaliyadda Divisional Secretariat areas will also remain closed tomorrow.
The Acting Commissioner-General of Excise said the decision was taken based on requests made from respective Divisional Secretaries.
Hindu devotees in Sri Lanka and across the world will celebrate Thai Pongal tomorrow.
Thai Pongal is observed at the start of the month according to the Tamil solar calendar and is dedicated to the Hindu sun god and corresponds to the harvest festival.
