Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Kins Nelson has requested President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to lift the ban on chemical fertiliser.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, MP Nelson said farming cannot be carried out without chemical fertilisers.
The Parliamentarian said Director General of the Department of Agriculture during a recent media briefing that there were many options to using the fertiliser imported from India.
MP Nelson said it is not too late to reverse the decision to ban chemical fertiliser.
Joining the media briefing Parliamentarian Imthiaz Bakeer Markar said the present administration cannot escape the blame for all issues the country is faced with owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
MP Markar said other South Asian countries including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and the Maldives have manged the financial situation amidst the pandemic by maintaining foreign reserves.
He said Sri Lanka is reaching a situation similar to Lebanon terming it as tragic.
MP Markar said the country has not faced these many disasters apart from a conflict.
The Parliamentarian said the country is facing a famine, malnutrition, unemployment, an education crisis, an agriculture crisis, environmental issues due to the fire-stricken X-Press Pearl vessel while the country has been made a football among world powers owing to flawed foreign policies.
