COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The timeframe granted to accept postal voting applications for the 2023 Local Authorities Election concludes today.
The National Election Commission commenced accepting postal voting applications for the election from the 5th of January.
Commissioner-General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake said the deadline will not be extended under any circumstance.
The Commissioner-General said state employees, principals, teachers, officers of the Sri Lanka Transport Board, postal and railway workers, Police officers and other security forces personnel are eligible to apply for postal voting.
The requirements in order to complete the application can be accessed via www.elections.gov.lk or by contacting 1919.
The Election Commission said postal voting applications can also be submitted online.
Due to the looming deadline, application will be accepted by regional election offices and at the Election Secretariat in Rajagiriya.
Meanwhile, the National Election Commission has summoned all political parties and independent groups for a special meeting pertaining to the Local Authorities Election.
The meeting will be held tomorrow (24) at the Election Secretariat in Rajagiriya.
This is the first meeting between the Commission and political parties following the declaration of the Local Authorities Election.
Accordingly, lengthy discussions will be held pertaining to the modalities of the election.
The acceptance of nominations concluded at noon on Saturday (21).
The Local Authorities Election will be held on the 9th of March.
