COLOMBO (NewsRadio); A total of six political parties and 11 Independent Groups placed deposits for the upcoming Local Authorities Election yesterday.
Commissioner-General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake said the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna placed deposits for all the Local Government Bodies in the Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Trincomalee Districts, while the National People’s Power placed deposits for all Local Government Bodies in the Kurunegala District yesterday.
The United Congress Party, the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi, Jana Setha Peramuna and the United National Freedom Party also placed deposits to contest the upcoming election.
11 Independent Groups also placed deposits to contest the Local Authorities Election from the Colombo, Kalutara, Polonnaruwa, Jaffna, Trincomalee, Ampara and Badulla Districts.
Deposits for the Local Authorities Election can be placed by recognized political parties and Independent Groups until noon on the 20th of January.
Meanwhile, nominations will be accepted for the Local Authorities Election from the 18th of January to noon o the 21st of January.
The National Election Commission is yet to announce the Local Authorities Election date.
