The Ministry of Tourism has instructed officials to take legal action against travel guides who misuse Tourist Guide Identity Cards.

Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga issued these directives during an introductory programme carried out by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority to prepare travel guides.

A continuous online professional development programme was also introduced to enhance the knowledge and skills of all guides registered with the Authority.

The government has also directed attention to developing a system that provides quality services to tourists to rebuild the tourism industry in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Tourism Ministry said steps will be taken to issue a new identity card with a colour coded system for guides with the aim of ensuring the safety of tourists visiting Sri Lanka.
