The Ministerial Consultative Committee on Woman, Child Affairs and Social Empowerment has paid attention towards making laws to prevent the media from exposing children in incidents involving children.
The Ministerial Consultative Committee convened under the chairmanship of State Minister Geetha Kumarasinghe recently (10).
The exposure of children by media was discussed at length due to a recent incident in Millaniya, and attention was drawn to the need to formulate a law accordingly.
Furthermore, it was discussed that a special procedure should be followed on regarding incidents of child convicts being brought before the law while the failure to do so will affect the mental wellbeing and future of such children.
Additionally, it was also emphasised that the Children and Women’s Bureau in every Police should be strengthened.
Accordingly, State Minister Geetha Kumarasinghe said necessary officials have already been informed that a separate room for the Children’s and Women’s Bureau must be established while four female Police officers will be attached at each Police Station.
