(NewsRadio); A Sri Lankan couple with disabilities and their two children have reached Cherakottai shores near Dhanushkodi seeking refuge.
The New Indian Express reported that upon information, the Marine police reached the location and provided the family with primary aid.
Lankans aged, 5, 9, 36 and 39 are residents of Thirukadaloor in Trincomalee.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the family from Trincomalee decided to flee Sri Lanka as they had been struggling to eke out a living amidst the surging inflation rates.
They reportedly told police that the crisis in the country was particularly hard on them as the couple had disabilities.
The family boarded a boat in Thalaimannar late on Sunday night and reached Cherakottai.
The number of refugees from Sri Lanka reaching Tamil Nadu since March 2022 has now risen to 188.
