COLOMBO (NewsRadio); 24-hour early landslide warnings have been issued to residents of seven districts.
Accordingly, landslide warnings issued by the National Building Research Organisation to residents of Colombo, Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Badulla, Ratnapura and Kegalle will be in place till 7.30pm today.
The NBRO has issued Level 2 Amber warning to the Lunugala Divisional Secretariat area in the Badulla District.
Meanwhile, Level 1 warning has been issued to the Bandarawela, Passara, Ella and Badulla DS areas in the Badulla District, Padukka and Seethawaka DS areas in the Colombo District, Walallawita, Ingiriya, Palindanuwara, Horana and Agalawatta DS areas in the Kalutara District, Nagoda and Yakkalamulla DS areas in the Galle District, Pasgoda and Kotapola DS areas in the Matara District, the Dehiowita and Deraniyagala DS areas in the Kegalle District and the Weligepola DS area in the Ratnapura District.
Meanwhile, people residing in landslide prone areas have been requested to remain vigilant owing to heavy rains experienced across the country.
Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology predicts showers or thundershowers over most places in the island after 2pm today.
The Met Department said heavy showers of about 100mm can be expected at some places in the Southern, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces.
Showers will occur particularly in the coastal areas of Northern, Eastern and Southern provinces during the morning as well.
Meanwhile, misty condition can be expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts during the morning.
The general public has also been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
