COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The number of kidney patients reported in the country has increased considerably.

Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo yesterday, Nephrologist Dr. Anura Hewageegana said the recent trend is concerning.

Dr. Hewageegana noted that the number of cases reported from regions heavily involved in agricultural activities has increased drastically.

The use of fertilizer and many other factors have been attributed to the increase.

Meanwhile, the government is looking at the possibility to broaden the scope of the allowance given to kidney patients.

A census in this regard is also underway.
