The Sri Lanka Navy has seized 109kg and 150g of Kerala cannabis during a special operation carried out in seas off Jaffna yesterday.
Two suspects have been arrested while a dinghy used for the racket has also been seized.
The Navy intercepted a suspicious dinghy heading landward, in seas from Thondamanaru to Mamunei, and discovered two sacks of Kerala cannabis.
Upon further inspection in seas another sack of Kerala cannabis drifting in waters was recovered.
It is suspected that the smugglers obtained the stock of Kerala cannabis at the International Maritime Boundary Line to smuggle them into the island.
The street value of the seized stock of Kerala cannabis is believed to be over Rs.32 million.
The arrested individuals are residents of Point Pedro, and aged 26 and 28.
They will be handed over to the Point Pedro Police for further legal action, along with the stock of Kerala cannabis and the dinghy.
