The Sri Lanka Navy and Police have seized over 60kg (wet weight) of Kerala cannabis, during a joint operation carried out in Analathivu Island, Jaffna today (24).

SLNS Elara in the Northern Naval Command, in coordination with Kayts Police, seized the stock of Kerala cannabis that was washed ashore.

The consignment was in 25 packages in two sacks and weighed around 60kg and 652g (wet weight).

It is believed that the smugglers abandoned the consignment after failing to bring the goods ashore owing to constant naval operations at sea.

The street value of the stock of Kerala cannabis is believed to be over Rs.20 million.

The stock of Kerala cannabis has been handed over to the Kayts Police for further legal action.
