(NewsRadio); The annual two-day Kachchatheevu festival is scheduled to begin today.
The annual festival of the St. Anthony’s Church will be held on the Kachchatheevu Island today and tomorrow.
The main mass of the annual feast will be conducted by the Bishop of Jaffna Diocese, Rt. Rev. Justin Gnanapragasam.
Necessary arrangements to conduct the festival are being made by the District Secretary of Jaffna while the Sri Lanka Navy establishes infrastructure and other facilities for the convenience of devotees.
The Sri Lanka Navy said, at the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, Navy personnel are engaged in providing infrastructure facilities, installation of sanitary and drinking water facilities, temporary tents, roads, jetties as well as electricity, for the annual feast.
Apart from that, the Sri Lanka Navy lifesaving teams and medical teams with a temporary Sick Bay have been deployed for the safety and security of the devotees attending the annual festival.
Meanwhile, a large number of Indian and Sri Lankan devotees are expected to participate in this annual festival.
The Navy has also made all arrangements to ferry priests, government officials, dignitaries, devotees, local and foreign journalists as well as equipment needed for the church mass, from Kurikadduwan Jetty to the Kachchatheevu islet.
