Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera has detailed institutions and sites that will benefit through the Indian credit lone for renewable energy.

The Minister said the Indian government has provided a credit line of USD 100 million for renewable energy projects.

Accordingly, 374 national schools, 25 state universities, 20 national colleges of education, eight teacher training colleges, 20 technical colleges (VTA/NAITA), 25 District Secretariats and 331 Divisional Secretariats will be included in the project.

In addition 79 Information Technology and Distance Learning Hubs, 220 Tri Forces and Police Buildings, 824 Piriven, 5KV systems each for 9,176 religious institutions and other key government buildings will benefit.

The Minister said a total of 11,219 project locations will be equipped with roof top solar panels.

He noted that 827 sites have already been surveyed.

Minister Wijesekera said a separate programme is implemented by respective Provincial Councils and the Ministry of Health to include all other provincial schools and hospitals in the roof top solar programme.
