COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Three persons including the main suspect arrested in connection with the suspicious death of a 16-year-old schoolgirl in Kalutara have been remanded till the 26th of May.

The teenager died after allegedly falling from the third floor of a hotel along the Galle Road in Kalutara-South on the 6th of May after being accompanied by three persons.

Meanwhile, the wife of the owner of the hotel in Kalutara where the 16-year-old girl was staying before her death, who was also arrested in connection with the incident has been granted bail.

The order was issued when the suspects were produced before the Kalutara Magistrate’s Court today.

The 29-year-old, who was identified as the main suspect in the death who was arrested in Hikkaduwa was initially detained for 48 hours for interrogations.

The wife of the owner of the hotel where the 16-year-old girl was staying before her death was arrested on the 11th of May.

The 48-year-old woman, a resident of Katukurunda, was arrested for failing to properly inspect the National Identity Card of the teenager before providing accommodation at the hotel owned by her husband.

The body of a 16-year-old girl was found close to a railway track behind a hotel along the Galle Road in Kalutara-South on the 6th of May.

According to Police, the teenager had checked into the hotel along with three others.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the teenager in question had arrived with a youth and another young couple and rented two rooms on the third floor of the hotel.

Police said an employee of the hotel had noticed that all four were consuming alcohol in one room, although they had rented two rooms in the hotel.

Later, the couple had left the hotel, and the employees had noticed the other man also leaving the hotel after about 20 minutes.

Subsequently, the naked body of the teenager who had died, allegedly after falling from the third floor of the five-storied building was discovered.

The deceased girl was identified as a resident of Nagoda.
