The JVP says it is regretful that the law is not being enforced equally to all citizens.
Speaking during a media briefing Chief Secretary of the JVP Tilvin Silva said the arrest and arbitrary detention of teachers and principals who were seeking solutions to their demands was a grave mistake by the government.
Silva said arrested persons are detained, without allowing lawyers to visit them.
He claimed the government is attempting to suppress the struggle by isolating individuals to incite fear.
Silva said it is a serious situation.
He claimed the government led by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the Police service under the purview of Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekera are attempting to isolate and hunt down individuals who are leading and supporting struggles, to demand justified rights.
Tilvin Silva questioned why visitations are not allowed for arrested individuals, while claiming that Minister Weerasekera himself had allowed Actress Piyumi Hansamali and the group arrested with her to return and collect clothes before being taken to quarantine.
He claimed the government has a separate law for their supporters and associates and another law for those who oppose the government.
