Junior staff of hospitals will engage in a two day sick note campaign both today and tomorrow based on 10 demands.
Chief Secretary of the Joint Health Workers Union Ven. Tampitiye Sugathananda thera speaking to NewsRadio said solutions have not been provided to their demands over a lengthy period of time.
The thera said their demands include addressing the shortage of junior staff, increasing allowances to Rs.15,000, introducing a stringent recruitment process, leave that has been cancelled citing the coronavirus through circulars to be reissued to staff amongst other concerns.
The venerable added the government is also attempting to slash the special COVID-allowance that medical staff have been receiving, with effect from the month of August.
Sugathananda thera however claimed that essential services, Intensive Care Units, children and maternity hospitals and COVID-19 wards will not be affected by the strike action.
