Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida has extended his congratulations to newly elected President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

In a congratulatory message, the Japanese Prime Minister has said he is hopeful that President Wickremesinghe can ensure political stability and undertake reforms in order to promptly solve the issues the country is facing at present.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has added that he is optimistic that the President will be able make quick progress in negotiations to obtain assistance from the International Monetary Fund while also related to debt restructuring.

Japanese Prime Minister Kishida has also stated that he is keen to continue cooperation for a ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific’ policy with Sri Lanka.
