The Ministry of Power says certain parts of the country may experience one-hour power cuts during the next four days.

The Ministry said island wide power cuts could be experienced from 6pm to 9pm until the 8th of December.

Speaking to media today, Director of the Ministry of Power & Energy Sulakshana Jayawardena said they will be forced to limit the supply of electricity to the National Power Grid until the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant is fully operational.

Jayawardena said certain areas may experience power cuts during peak hours as power generation will be problematic until repairs to two power generators are completed in the next four days.

However, Sulakshana Jayawardena said yesterday’s power cut was not caused due to a breakdown in the Norochcholai Power Plant.

He added it was due to a breakdown in transmission lines.

Jayawardena also noted that a full report on the incident will be tabled once investigations are complete.
