GALLE (NewsRadio); Ireland took major honours on day one of the second and final Test against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.
The Irish were well placed on 319/4 at stumps on the opening day.
Lorcan Tucker remained unbeaten on 78 while Curtis Campher was not out on 27 at close of play.
Earlier, Irish skipper Andy Balbirnie missed out on his maiden century when he was dismissed for a well-made 95.
Experienced Paul Stirling was retired hurt for 75. The pair put on 115 for the fourth wicket before Stirling was forced to leave the field.
For Sri Lanka, Prabath Jayasuriya picked up 2/95.
The day two of the Test match will get underway at 10am tomorrow.
